Your Instagram & Facebook Posts Can Now Rank on Google

Instagram & Facebook Posts Can Now Rank on Google

If you’ve been putting time and energy into your organic social media content, we’ve got some exciting news. As of July 10, 2025, your Instagram and Facebook posts can now show up in Google search results.

Your reels, carousels, and posts aren’t just for the feed anymore; they now have a chance of showing up when people are actively Googling what you do. For anyone building their business with organic content, this is huge.

What's Changing?

Meta is officially allowing Google to crawl and index public posts on Instagram and Facebook.

Until now, your reels, carousels, and posts were basically invisible outside the apps. If someone didn’t see your post in their feed, your content was done, unless it went viral.

But now, if you’ve got a public, professional account (business or creator), your content published after January 1, 2020, can show up when someone searches on Google.

Why This Update Matters

Think about how many times a day people Google things, over 105,000 searches every second. And now your content could be part of that mix.

In other words, your posts aren’t just quick “likes” anymore. They can keep working for you weeks, months, even years after they've been posted.

How to Give Your Posts a Better Shot at Showing Up

This update is new, so no one has the full playbook yet. But here are smart ways to give your content a better shot at ranking:

  • Use keywords in your captions. Write naturally, but include words your audience is searching for.
  • Add descriptive alt-text. Search engines can’t “see” images, so alt-text helps them understand your visuals. Bonus: it makes your content more accessible.
  • Prioritize Reels and valuable content. Google favors video, but only if it’s useful. Focus on content that educates, inspires, or answers questions.
  • Be strategic with hashtags. Think of hashtags as keywords. Use 5–10 strong, relevant ones instead of spamming.
  • Tag your location. If you’re a local business, geotagging is huge. It helps your posts show up in searches tied to your area.

A Couple Things to Remember

  • It’s worth giving old posts a quick refresh (better captions, hashtags, alt-text) to make them more search-friendly.
  • Not into it? You can turn off indexing in your Instagram settings.

This update blurs the line between social media and SEO in the best way possible. Instead of thinking of Instagram as “just social,” you can now treat it as a long-term visibility tool that helps people discover your business outside the app.

So the next time you post, remember: it’s not just for your followers. It’s a chance to get found by brand-new customers who are already searching for what you offer.

Pretty exciting, right?
